Madrid Pride Still a Political Hotbed!

Jonathan Agassi of Lucas Entertainment has withdrawn from scheduled appearances during Madrid’s Gay Pride festival over differences in political ideology. He said he was “outraged” when festival organizers withdrew their invitation to participate in the Pride March from a Tel Aviv delegation. This all came about because the mayor of Tel Aviv failed to condemn Israel’s attack on ships trying to break its Gaza blockade and Agassi withdrew unity in with his countrymen.

“After what has happened, and as human rights campaigners, it seemed barbaric to us to have [the Tel Aviv delegation] taking part,” Antonio Poveda, of Spain’s Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transexuals and Bisexuals, told the UK’s Guardian newspaper. “We don’t just defend our own little patch.”

Agassi added his voice to those of the Tel Aviv group, which accused the Madrid Pride March organizers of inappropriate political activism. “It’s terrible that the organizers made such an awful decision, especially since Israel is so supportive of gay rights, but I’m proud of my choice [to withdraw],” Agassi said. “Madrid was supposed to be my first pride event outside of Israel, and I was so excited about it, but I have no regrets. I will never forget where I came from. Israel is and will always be my home, and I will forever support and stand up for my country.”

Said Michael Lucas (you know he would get a word in edgewise!): “Jonathan and my crew filmed two movies in Spain just two months ago,” he added. “I don’t think we will return.”

When Reality Collides with the "Real World"

Boston Real World 1997 alumnia Sean Duffy is running for the Republican seat in US Congress and has Sarah Palin as a supporter.

“At 38, Duffy has been named one of the genuinely young members of the RNC's not-so ‘Young Guns,’” reports HuffPo. “With establishment help, including endorsements from Tim Pawlenty's Freedom First PAC and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Duffy has raised more than $600,000 and is expected to to beat his opponent, tea-party backed Dan Mielke (author of perhaps the most monotonous, sleep-inducing, uninspired attack video ever created), in September's Republican primary.”

If Duffy wins, he would likely face Wisconsin state senator Julie Lassa, the expected Democratic nominee for the seat to be vacated by Rep. David Obey, a Democrat who announced his retirement in May.

Two Wounded at Vigil for SF Pride Shooting

More hateful violence hits the San Francisco area last night, this time at a Vigil for Pride Shooting. A 21-year-old man was shot through the cheek and a 20-year-old man shot in the leg by an unknown assailant during a Monday evening vigil for Stephen Powell, who was shot and killed at San Francisco's "Pink Saturday" festival on Saturday.

A suspect or suspects have yet to be identified, according to San Francisco Police Department spokesman Samson Chan.

Powell was one of three people shot during the annual pre-Pride celebration. The other two victims, a 19-year-old woman and 29-year-old man, are expected to fully recover.

Ed Perkins, 20, of San Francisco was arrested Saturday night near the scene of the crime in the Castro. Police are not releasing a motive but have said they don't believe the incident was a hate crime.

One dead, two injured at San Francisco Pride

A 19-year-old man is dead and two other people are recovering after a shooting at San Francisco's 40th Pride celebrations. The incident took place at around 11.30pm on Saturday evening in the Castro district.

The Castro has been a popular place for gay men and lesbians since the '60s.

According to Pink News, the streets were full of pride attendees when an unidentified man pulled out a gun and began firing.

Chaos reigned for a short while as police officers rushed into the crowd who began to throw bottles and other objects in response to the sound of the gunfire.

The gunman was arrested at the scene. Police have stated it was not a gay hate crime and it was likely the gunman knew at least one of the victims.
