Drag star Ru Paul disappointed Mardi Gras party-goers with an unspectacular show on Saturday night.
The singer looked stunning performing a version of her early ’90s hit Supermodel, but a rehearsed production number with a cast of back-up dancers failed to appear.
Party insiders say Ru Paul insisted on performing alone at the last minute.
At the end of the number she signed off with “Happy Pride” but corrected it to “Happy Mardi Gras”. Oddly, she left the stage saying, “Don’t come the raw prawn with me,” an Australian expression meaning, “You must be joking,” which is what many punters felt about the show, which was received politely with a smattering of booing.
