Eartha Kitt, sultry singer the best Catwoman, dies at 81

A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.

Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers and Catwoman for the Batman Series, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

Amsterdam hosts gay-themed 'Pink Christmas' celebration

Amsterdam hosted a Christmas celebration for its gay community on Sunday featuring a nativity tableau with a male Mary in drag that church organizations denounced as an affront to traditional values.

Organizers said the event was meant to raise Amsterdam's profile as a gay capital at a time when homosexuals feel threatened.

Christians for Truth, an independent religious group, had asked the city council to cancel the "Pink Christmas," event, saying it made a mockery of Christian tenets. The city did not comment.

A male entertainer known as Wendy Mills posed as Mary in a blonde wig and high-heeled black boots and holding a plastic doll. Another man played Joseph in black leather trunks and a silver shawl.

The five-person manger scene was staged off the street, in the courtyard of a nightclub. Visitors were invited to be photographed with the group. The first was 3-month-old Lily Pink Albers, Mills' niece.

"By portraying Joseph and Mary as homosexuals, a twisted human fantasy is being added to the history of the Bible," Christians for Truth said in a statement ahead of the event.

A few dozen visitors wandered through the 100-yard (meter) long Pink Market past stalls selling leather goods and Christmas cards with gay themes on a downtown street known for its gay nightlife and popular restaurants.

Frank van Dalen, chairman of Pro Gay, which organized the event, said gays were not satisfied with being tolerated, but wanted to be "socially accepted as an indivisible part of society."

He said the Amsterdam city council sponsored the euro15,000 ($21,000) event, which he hoped would become a regular event, like the annual floating summertime gay pride parade through the city's canals that attracts tens of thousands of visitors.

"Our objective is not to be offensive. This is about visibility," he said.

Van Dalen pointed to a report last month that said homophobia was an ingrained problem in Amsterdam, despite the city's freewheeling reputation.

The study by the University of Amsterdam reported 67 violent attacks against gays in 2007, which police said was about average.

Van Dalen said gays were feeling increasingly uncomfortable in public in recent years, and that they perceived Dutch society as more assertive about "classical values."

Head Mormon's inbox runneth over

27,000 letters urge LDS leader to back rights of gay Utahns. President Thomas S. Monson: You have mail - boxes of it.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) delivered 27,000 letters to LDS Church headquarters Monday - all of them asking the Mormon leader to support legal protections for gay and transgender Utahns.

The national gay-rights group has endorsed Equality Utah's Common Ground Initiative, a collection of bills that would, among other things, provide rights to fair housing and employment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Utahns and domestic-partner benefits for same-sex couples.

The movement was born in response to statements the LDS Church made in the wake of California's Proposition 8 - which eliminated gay marriage in the Golden State - that the church "does not object to rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights or probate rights."

WordPerfect co-founder and Orem resident Bruce Bastian, who is gay and sits on the HRC's board, launched the letter-writing campaign last week by sending an action alert to HRC members.

Bastian, a former Mormon, donated $1 million to fight Proposition 8 after the LDS Church joined the "yes" campaign.

"Our movement has a long history of respectfully engaging with those who would deny our basic humanity and civil rights," Bastian wrote in his e-mail. "Let's hope the church's claims are more than just a political posture."

Tiger Tyson Tells How He Tammed Two Tops

Yo, it's taken me three years to assemble the right cast so's I could make the third sequel in the Take 'Em Down series. Since Take Em Down #1 and #2 were my best-selling movies ever, I knew I had to be careful who I picked. My fans seen super-hung top Supreme get his tight asshole fucked twice, so now I had to find some cool new thugs to give it up to the Tiger!

I asked my fans on my blog to let me know who they wanted to see me bang out, and the majority voted for Atlanta top KB (pictured, with Tyson) and New York top Nubius. Both thugs had worked in previous movies for Pitbull but none of them had met me. It was agreed I'd fly into Atlanta to shoot with KB on his home turf. And that's when the fun began!

I took an early morning flight (like I had to get up at 5 a.m., which is normally when I go to sleep) from New York to Atlanta, then take their idea of the subway, the MARTA, to the shoot location. After five cups of coffee I was wired and ready to fuck. I walked in, went over to KB and gave him a big hug. He hugged me back and we both took a walk outside to discuss the upcoming scene. It was only then that KB discovered he was going to be the bottom and I was the top! Whoa. He was in shock. So the fuck was I! I had visions of flying all the way to Atlanta for nothing. Shit!

I watched the clock and worked my Tiger charm on KB to bottom for me. He was dying to fuck me and couldn't get his mind around being the bottom. Finally, in desperation, I told him that if he went first, we'd see about me bottoming later. With only three hours to go before my return flight to New York, I finally got that hot thug out of his clothes and sucking my dick. He's a good cocksucker.

The next hurdle was getting my 10 ½-inch cock into KB's virgin asshole. Damn, he was tight! It took a while but I finally worked most of my hard dick into his butt. When I started to fuck him, slowly at first, then faster and faster, his cries of passion were hip hop to my ears. Before long he was banging his butt back onto my cock as hard as he could and we both finished the scene hot and sweaty and full of cum, ready to blow our loads.

After, he told me in private that he was happy I was the man who popped his anal cherry, which was high praise. And he wanted to know when I was going to return the favor and bottom for him. We'll see, I'm still thinking about it! Of course, everyone knows the Tiger never bottoms, not in this lifetime.

Now Nubius was a whole other story. The big guy, he's 6'5" to my 5'7," put up a real fight when it came time to bottom for our scene. I actually had to wrestle him to the ground and strip him! Shit, he's 10 inches taller than I am and it took all my strength and moves to flip him underneath me. For a minute I thought he was actually going to win and fuck me! Thank God for my years studying martial arts. They saved my ass! Sometimes I feel like one of those snake charmers from India that you see on TV. They use a flute to play music to mesmerize a cobra as it comes up out of a basket. I use my attitude and voice and cock to do the same thing, seducing, taming and turning tops into bottoms.

President Bush Strikes a Blow to Equality One Last Time

Just when you were thinking what else could Bush to ruin America, he gets in one last punch. Remember that "right of conscience" regulation? The one that would allow anyone working in the healthcare profession -- from doctors to nurses to the people that clean the tools to the hospital janitors -- to opt out of providing care to someone based on a moral opposition to a procedure? Well, it went through today.

Let's say your hospital, clinic or doctor receives federal funding, and you go there for an abortion or to be artificially inseminated. If the doctor on duty doesn't believe in abortion or lesbian parenting, he can refuse to do the procedure, and he won't get in trouble for it. If he's somehow forced to perform a procedure that's against his beliefs, the hospital, clinic or doctor's office can have its federal funding yanked right out from under it.

"Doctors and other health care providers should not be forced to choose between good professional standing and violating their conscience," Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said in a statement.

The Obama administration will most likely reverse the rule, but it will take a while. The rule is supported by many Catholic groups and our friends at the Family Research Council. Oh, and the rule will cost more than $44 million to implement.

The wording of the rule is so broad that it could allow pharmacies to opt out of selling contraceptives.

Bollywood's boys bulk up & get a legion of Gay Fans

Bollywood's leading actors are hitting the gym as never before, adding brawn and biceps to their on-screen repertoires and winning a legion of new fans in the process -- including other men.

The latest weight-training convert is Aamir Khan, who enlisted the help of physical trainer Satyajit Chourasia two years ago to get in shape for the film "Ghajini", which is released on December 25.

His daily four-hour regime appears to have paid off. Giant advertising hoardings show a shaven-headed Khan, who plays a man with memory loss who tattoos himself and takes Polaroid pictures to remember people and places, stripped to the waist, exposing a finely-ripped torso.

Historically, the muscle-bound macho hero has never been in vogue in Bollywood.

Instead, leading men were as likely to be measured by the manly thickness of their chest hair or how they carried a tune or moved in the set-piece song and dance routines. Wow, who knew that I would be considered "butch" by singing and dancing in Bollywood!

Naked models brave the cold to protest low pay

Artists' models in Paris stripped naked on Monday, braving freezing temperatures to protest against a ban on tips and to demand better pay and recognition. More than 20 male and female models, some posing nude while others were draped in a colourful array of shawls, sheets and fur coats, took part in the protest that had the backing of two of France's biggest labour unions.

Anti-Gay Crime Up In America For 2008

A rash of attacks against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people across America suggests the number of reported assaults could rise in 2008, an advocacy group said.

The number of reported attacks against LGBT people increased 24 percent in 2007 over 2006, and they were expected to jump in 2008, said Sharon Stapel, executive director of the New York City Anti-Violence Project.

Officials were still crunching the 2008 figures, which will be released early next year, Stapel said.

Since the February fatal shooting of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old Los Angeles boy who endured harassment after telling classmates he was gay, "we are witnessing what appears to be an increase in both the occurrence and severity of violence motivated by racism, homophobia, and transphobia," said Stapel.

Stapel attributed the increase in part to more people reporting incidents, but she believed there actually could have been more assaults because 2008 was an election year.

"Election years are always violent years for us because of wedge issues," Stapel said, referring to ballot measures this year banning gay marriage in California and Florida. "With increased visibility comes increased vulnerability to LGBT stereotypes and violence. We've seen some of the most violent hate crimes that we've seen in a while."

Ex-Cop Arrested for Gay Serial Killings

An ex-policeman has been arrested in connection to the murders of 13 gay men in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Jairo Francisco Franco was apprehended after a witness identified him as the killer of a gay man in August.

Franco is suspected of all of 13 killings between February 2007 and August 2008 at Paturis Park, one of the city's popular gay beats.

Police inspector Paulo Fortunato says the police "have a credible witness who says he saw Franco pump 12 bullets into a black gay man inside the park."

A second witness said Franco visited the park frequently, "apparently cruising for gay men and victims," Fortunato said.

Police have dubbed the killer of the 13 men as the "rainbow maniac," a reference to the gay-pride symbol.

"We are convinced he is the rainbow maniac we have been looking for," Fortunato said.

Conservative Urban Outfitters Pulls Gay Marriage T-Shirts

It's been a poorly kept secret for years that the guy getting rich off Urban Outfitters' vast array of Bambi lamps and $150 Goodwill dresses is a super-conservative millionaire who does things like make five-figure donations to Rick Santorum.

Over the years the hip-kitsch retail empire has come under criticism for everything from manufacturing its fancy frumpwear in third world sweatshops to biting motifs from indie designers. But one thing's for sure: UO has never let any right-wing loyalties interfere with its ability to make a buck (or 40) on a t-shirt bearing a political, controversial, or stupid slogan (cue flashback to "I Did Justin 3 Times!").

So when the chain suddenly yanked "I Support Gay Marriage" t-shirts from its California stores last week, speculation began accumulating that the corporation's politics may be finally showing up on the sales floor.

The Nanny to U.S. Senate?

She was working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens, Til her boyfriend kicked her out in one of those crushing scenes. What was she to do, where was she to go? D.C. perhaps?

Fran Drescher, star of sitcom The Nanny, wants Hillary Clinton's New York Senate seat.
"Fran Drescher, actress, women's health advocate and public diplomacy envoy for the US State Department, announced that she is throwing her hat into the ring of contenders for the senate seat being vacated by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Rodham Clinton," Drescher spokesman Jordan Brown said.

Perhaps a reason to watch C-SPAN with the sound on?

Battlestar Galactica Gettin' More Gays

Last time BSG had a gay character, she was played by Michelle Forbes and was a semi-crazy admiral involved with a toaster. The news that the new version of that venerable 70's show (which could be one of the best shows on U.S TV) will feature a new gay character is exciting for us gay-geeks. The best news would be if Apollo came out, played by the luscious Jamie Bamber, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards. Instead, it appears that Felix Gaeta, played by Alessandro Juliani, is revealed to have a lavender side in "The Face of the Enemy," a 10-part webisode series on SciFi.com. Of course, he's not the only one, but he's the only major recurring character to come out. I seem to remember Felix hooking up with a woman in a prior season, so maybe he swings both ways. Anyways, thank the Lords of Cobol for out gay characters on TV.
