There was a time when the Advocate and Out Magazine were always shipped in gray plastic to hide it's contents. But my last subscription allowed me the option to have my Advocate shipped stripped of that wrapping and now is in my mailbox monthly proud to be a gay issues magazine with nothing to hide. We freely posted our sexual preferences on Myspace when that was in. Linked our relationship status to our boyfriends and partners on Facebook for all our former high school classmates to see and realize what they already suspected before the next reunion. And now we have Fabulis.

Fabulis.com is a new site where gay men can network with other gay men. To find out what other like minded and local people are doing. You can link Fabulis to your Facebook account so that what you choose to share on Facebook will be visible on Fabulis. Other Fabulis users can view your profile to see your pictures, browse your upcoming plans based on invites you've RSVP for, and other profile details. All linked to Fabulis from Facebook.

Because all this is link to Facebook, at first I thought it was like Farmville for gays. And I long ago block all that shit! " I don't care if you need help working your crops! I don't do manual or even virtual labor!"

On Fabulis you have the option to choose your city and three things about yourself you identify as. These things can be hobbies, traits, or interests of your choosing. You are grouped with other people within these lists and ranked. Examples of these lists are "foodie", "bear", "advocate", or "hottie". You can pick to link to an existing list, or be the sole member of one you create and invite others to join. You are ranked within the lists, your city, and the overall site of all Fabulis members.

Within Fabulis you can see what is happening locally and around the world. The sites CEO, Jason Goldberg says "If I’m trying to find the best burger, the best boutique, restaurant or nightclub in a certain city, I want to know what people like me are saying," on the sites blog.

I have played with Fabulis here and there for the last month. Checked out the lists and even cruised a few of the self-identified "hotties". At first there were not many members and the events area was empty for me locally. Now that more people are joining and linking to it, I do see there is potential of finding what is going on around me. You can also link to cities in your travel plans, to see what the locals are planning to do. I did notice you can not be a "potty mouth", as the error reads when I tried to say "hell". I didn't even know "hell" was a bad word. Good thing Paulie and Evan let me say whatever the hell I want to on the Gay Porn Talk Blog!

The ranking thing is a bit hard to understand and feels like being picked last in a middle school gym for kickball again. Especially when your overall ranking is in the thousands. You earn "Bits" for going to the site daily, for nominating people, and when other members "Vote up" you. This moves you up within a list and determines your ranking within it. I do look forward to seeing how fabulous Fabulis can be. But if it annoys me, I'll block it on Facebook. Just like Farmville.

VPSofW: Will Clark

Continuing with my tour of legendary redheaded gay porn stars, we have Will Clark. Is it possible to feature gay men in film, television, theatre, or even comics no one reads, that aren’t drop dead gorgeous? Why must they all be beautiful, flawless and nearly naked (OK, maybe except for the bears on The Sarah Silverman Program)?

Believe me, I’m all for beautiful, flawless, nearly-naked gay men. But if the ubiquitous symbol for gay pride is a rainbow, then wouldn’t that infer gay men come in all different shapes, sizes and colors AND that those differences are something for us to celebrate and be proud of?

You know I’m getting way too worked up over a friggin' comic book. That you know I’ll totally buy.

Don't Use Eels as Sex Toys

I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of instant, self-made celebrity. Aaron is a men’s image consultant who hails from Atlanta, GA (in his case more like HOTLANTA). He dishes out men’s fashion and grooming advice on topics such as how to properly take care of your finger nails (he’s so manly he does his own damn nails, thank you very much) to how to choose the proper bathing suit (note: guys in Speedos scare the shit out of him). Two weeks in a row he’s worked the phrase “hung like a donkey” into his videos, and I’m seriously praying it will become his trademark slogan. I’ve always appreciated the fact that he doesn’t tailor his videos strictly to a straight-male audience, and that he openly acknowledges his gay audience both in the videos themselves and in his follow-up to comments.

Watson says "I was motivated by the Vatican's position on homosexuality, and its ban on condom use, to create a painting which references Caravaggio's 'Crucifiction of St Peter'. Francois Sagat continues to play a valuable role in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention and education. I wanted to acknowledge that in the painting, whilst tying it to the Vatican. In contrast, the Vatican uses its status in the UN General Assembly to obstruct the promotion of condoms as protection against HIV/AIDS, and sexuality education in school curricular. Some will regard the painting as provocative, but I don't believe it is in contrast to the Vatican's position on these issues. The Pope's 2nd in charge recently claimed homosexuality and pedophilia are linked. That enraged me. It seems just and deserving to depict Francois Sagat as a contemporary saint, given he is helping to save lives, rather than contributing to causing illness and deaths for millions. The great majority of Caravaggio's patrons were from the Catholic church, and his paintings were sometimes rejected as they were viewed as inappropriate for a religious theme. I'm reminded here of my freedom as an artist. Imagine what Caravaggio might paint if he were alive today?"

Brent Corrigan Teams up and DC Fuk!t
