European Gay Porn Awards Winners Announced

The winners of the European Gay Porn Awards (EGPA) were announced on Saturday, immediately following the presentation ceremony, held at the ufaFabrik International Centre in Berlin.
Hosted by U.K.-based drag performer Ms. Jonny Woo, 25 awards were handed out in Europe’s largest gay adult industry awards show.

The evening’s big winner was Sk8erBoy Films, which walked away with Best Fetish Film, Best Solo Performance, Best Duo Performance. Best Overall Film went to Sauvage’s “Wet Dream” and Best Director honors were snagged by Eurocreme’s Simon Booth. Best Newcomer went to BelAmi exclusive Paul Valery.

As for U.S. studios represented at the awards, Hot House Entertainment came out on top, bringing back four awards, including Best Cum Shot and Best Non-European for its feature “Communion”. San Francisco-based Titan Media took the trophy for Best Three-way Performance, while New York-based Lucas Entertainment took Best Boxcover honors for “Michael Lucas’ La Dolce Vita.”

Michael Lucas in Legal Trouble for “Bareback” Infringement

Spunk Video and parent company LBB Corp have filed suit against Lucas Distribution claiming that Lucas released a bareback gay video that Spunk owns exclusive rights to.

Spunk claims that they bought the video, which they released in November under the title “Nasty Piss Boys,” from a European director who was commissioned to produce the film originally by Lucas. Upon completion, Lucas apparently rejected the film and the director then sold it to Spunk Video.

In April, according to Spunk Video Executive Producer Mike Brady, his company received an email from Lucas Distribution promoting a video titled “Raw Twinks in Czech,” which included photo stills from the movie and was marketed under the European producer’s imprint. Recognizing the content of the photos, Brady claims the company sent a cease-and-desist letter to Lucas within two hours of receiving the promotional email, but received no response form Lucas. “He ordered up a movie, then changed his mind and decided that he didn’t want to release a bareback movie,” Brady says.

Brady also says that he contacted Michael Lucas personally and asked for proof of the company’s right to distribute the film. “I said to him, ‘What’s the deal about this?’ And he said that he produced the movie,” Brady described. “And I said, ‘Well, you didn’t pay for it,’ and he said, ‘I have a non-exclusive license to the movie.’ I asked if he would send me the contract, and he said he would fax it, and he never faxed it.”

In view of Michael Lucas’ well-known anti-barebacking stance within the adult industry and in the gay community at large, the allegations against his company for distributing a bareback movie seem especially controversial. Brady claimed also that Lucas had told him that 1,000 copies of the DVD had been produced and that after they were sold, he would not reproduce more of the title. “That’s $25,000 [at wholesale],” Brady said. “That’s money that belongs to us. It’s our movie. “He was completely unreasonable about the situation. He said that he’d only pressed 1,000 DVDs and [he'd] sell them, and then that’s all.”

This afternoon, Lucas Entertainment issued a formal statement regarding the case. It said, “Lucas Entertainment never had and does not have any intentions to produce bareback videos. Our company is also not concerned about Spunk Video’s motives to issue such a baseless press release.”

The statement also included a quote from Lucas Entertainment CEO and President Michael Lucas, who said, “I’m not even remotely interested in reading Spunk Video’s press release and Spunk Video is welcome to take any letter they have to any court they choose."

First Openly Gay Illinois Lawmaker Dies

Larry McKeon, the first openly gay member of the Illinois state legislature, died Tuesday in Springfield, Ill., the Chicago Tribune reports. He was 63. He was named to the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 1997.

McKeon had suffered from cancer and AIDS-related illnesses, but the immediate cause of death was a stroke, according to a Springfield newspaper, The State Journal-Register. Barbara Flynn Currie, the majority leader in the state house of representatives, announced his death Wednesday from the house floor in Springfield, the state capital.In 2006 he decided not to seek reelection because of his health. Recently he had been working part-time as a lobbyist in Springfield for clients including the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.

McKeon was an army veteran and had been an officer with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department before moving to Chicago in the 1980s to attend graduate school. He then worked as a college instructor and social services administrator, and in 1992 he became executive director of the Chicago Human Rights Commission's Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Issues.

California's top court overturns gay marriage ban

In a monumental victory for the gay rights marriage movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," the court wrote.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.

The South Korean government has started a multilevel "war against pornography," intended "to fight against lewd material on television, the Internet and elsewhere, in order to prevent children from accessing sexually explicit content that sometimes leads to sex crimes," according to the Korea Times.

The government crackdown came after offenders in recent gang rapes among elementary school students in Daegu testified that they got ideas from pornography online and erotic films on cable television. Separate research by the Ministry of Health in 2007 said 88 percent of teens that have watched pornography said they got it online.

Cayman Islands Apologizes for Homophobic Arrest

Cayman Islands Director of Tourism Pilar Bush sent a letter to Chandler the Massachusetts man that got arrested for kissing his boyfriend while on vacation.

Said Bush in the letter, which Chandler received on Friday: "On behalf of the entire Department of Tourism, I apologize for your upsetting experience and want to assure you that the Cayman Islands is a welcoming jurisdiction to all people. What happened to you was an isolated incident, and is not representative of Cayman. We know that thousands of gay and lesbian visitors travel to the Cayman Islands every year and enjoy their vacation."

All sounds good but remember that the officer stated that it was against Cayman law for same sex couples to show affection in public so it doesn’t sound like all people are welcomed.

Gay Couple Arrested at Anti Gay Grand Cayman for Kissing

A gay couple from Massachusetts was detained by police after kissing on the dance floor of a popular club on Grand Cayman. Aaron Chandler, 23, and his boyfriend, both from on Amherst, Massachusetts, were holidaying with the boyfriend's sister and brother–in–law on the Caribbean island. The four had gone to the Royal Palms and joined about a dozen other couples who were dancing.

At one point Chandler kissed his boyfriend. A patron approached the men and berated them. "He asked us not to do that," Chandler told the Cay Compass newspaper. "He said, 'you shouldn’t be doing this here'.

The couple ignored the protest and kept dancing. Chandler, who is a member of the National Youth Advocacy Coalition, then planted another kiss on his boyfriend. "I do display affection when I’m with my boyfriend, publicly," Chandler told the paper. "It’s never anything most people would consider obscene however; usually it’s in the form of holding hands or a quick kiss."
But a police spokesperson told the Compass that two Cayman laws - the Penal Code and the Towns and Communities Law - could have been used to lay changes on the grounds that same-sex kissing in public caused distress or a disturbance to another member of the public.
An off-duty police officer intervened after the second kiss. "He told me he did not want me to show public displays of affection," Chandler said. "He said it was against the law for two people of the same sex." As the four Americans were preparing to leave the club Chandler kissed his boyfriend again.

At that point "The officer grabbed my wrist and told me he was placing me under arrest," Chandler told the Compass. A second police officer arrived at the scene and the two men were taken to the George Town police station. After several hours in a holding room they were released without any charges laid. Chandler said that police attempted to get them to promise not to kiss again in public while on the island. Whether they could have been charged is questionable. Following complaints in several British territories in the Caribbean the UK Parliament passed a law in 2000 requiring the islands to abide by British law that decriminalized homosexuality.

Former Mr. Gay U.K. Accused of Cannibalism

Anthony Morley, the first man to be named Mr. Gay U.K. has been arrested and charged with the murder of an acquaintance. According to authorities, Morley now 35, stands accused of stabbing to death advertising executive Damian Oldfield.

Anthony Morley, 35, was held after Damian Oldfield's body was found at a house in Harehills, Leeds, with a chunk cut out of the right leg.

Police are said to have found human flesh diced as though "for cooking".
Officers are now having to consider the possibility that the killer had "eaten some of the flesh."
They were alerted after a man, covered in blood and wearing a white nightgown and slippers, went into a nearby kebab shop.

Morley was crowned Mr. Gay U.K. in 1993 at the age of 20. Officials said he and the victim, who worked for the gay magazine Bent, were acquainted but were not thought to be lovers.
